On the podcast this week, Steven “The Man” Reyes and Sean are getting dusty and bloody while talking about the incredible John Hillcoat Australian western, The Proposition.
There are so many guns in this movie! Jeez, this one starts with a bang. Actually, more like several hundred bangs and they just keep coming throughout the entire movie. We’re pretty horrified by the constant violence that took place in this movie and couldn’t be more glad that we live in a time when we don’t have to worry as much about dying in a flurry of Australian bullets. Still doesn’t stop us from talking about guns to no end.
Who can blame us? There are so many guns in this movie!
Story-wise, though, The Proposition is simple on the surface but has a depth and complexity in its characters that keeps you invested, even through its violence. It can be summed up pretty simply: A man has to find his murderous older brother so he can save his younger brother’s life. Oh, and everyone’s sweaty.
It’s a slow burn kind of film, but it never lets up. The action is intense, the performances are on another level, and the production is immaculate. It’s a film that’s definitely worth seeing at least once, so long as you can stomach a fair amount of violence.
And guns. Did we mention there are a lot of guns?
